These scholarships are one-time awards designated to assist student athletes pursuing further education. The scholarships are intended to recognize outstanding graduating athletes of ARHS. Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their athletic success, dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership, as well as academic effort and character.
To be considered for a scholarship, student athletes must meet the following criteria:
- Athletic Participation – Applicant must be a 12th grade student in good standing at ARHS who has participated on at least one athletic team during the student’s last two years of attending ARHS, with preference given to multi-sport athletes.
- Academic Achievement –The student athlete should have a minimum, cumulative, unweighted high school grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale. Student athletes with a GPA below 2.5 may provide information about any extenuating circumstances impacting their overall academic record.
- Post-Secondary Education – The applicant must be accepted by and planning to attend a post-secondary institution. Post-secondary institutions include, but are not limited to, colleges, universities, community colleges, and technical and vocational schools.
- Application Form –Students must fully complete and submit the application with required essay. Unofficial transcripts will also be required and provided by the ARHS Guidance Office. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- Essay – All applicants will write a 500-word essay. Essays should be included with the application or must be typed with applicant’s name appearing on the first page if provided separately. Applicants will not be considered for selection without the written essay. The essay should reflect the applicant’s consideration of the following questions: What have you learned through your athletic experiences?
- Selection Criteria – Applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their athletic success, dedication, sportsmanship, and leadership, as well as academic effort and character. Financial need is not a factor or consideration in applying for this scholarship. The student’s participation intent in sports at the post-secondary institution is not a factor in the selection process.
- Selection Committee – The selection committee will be representatives of the Amherst Hurricane Athletics Boosters who do not have a child applying for a scholarship in a given award year.
- Submission – Please complete the online scholarship application and essay. The 2024 application will open on January 1st. You will need to be logged into your Google account to complete the application. Upon submission, the application will be sent to the selection committee. Unofficial transcripts will be provided to the scholarship committee by the ARHS Guidance Office. Your submission of this application serves as permission to allow the ARHS Guidance Office to release your unofficial transcript to the committee.
- Deadline: The application with essay must be completed by March 31, 2024.
An Applicant that knowingly makes false statements or representations on the application or to the Selection Committee will automatically be removed from consideration.
The winners will be announced at the ARHS awards night and will have their names and pictures posted on this website.
